Winter fun on skis for children

01.07.2010

Oslo 2011 has created a new youth project "Aktiv til VM" that aims to spread the joy of winter and help children and teenagers in Norway get in shape for skiing during the run-up to the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. Look out for the many fun activities coming in the fall!

You can find all the children's WSC activities on www.aktivtilvm.no  (Norwegian website only).

Activities during the winter of 2011 include:

  • Ski schools: At least 200 000 kids will experience winter joy and learn to ski!
  • School kits will be distributed to schools in Oslo: They will be invited to arrange world championships. Some lucky schools will be drawn out after an application process.
  • Look out for "Aktiv til VM" on tour in Norway!
  • There will be many children's activities during the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, both in the arena (in cooperation with Statoil) and in down town Oslo.
  • The Children's WSC Day 13 March in Holmenkollen. The aim is to set a world record: To arrange the biggest children's cross country race ever!

During January, February and March 2011 "Aktiv til VM" will arrange 60 ski day events. In addition, there will be ski day events organised at schools and through sports clubs (using material produced by "Aktiv til VM"), Telenorkarusellen and Skiforeningens ski schools which means 10 000 kids during five weeks.

Facts about "Aktiv til VM"
"Aktiv til VM" is a joint project between the Association for the Promotion of Skiing (Skiforeningen), the Norwegian Ski Federation and Ski-VM 2011, with support from Statoil and Oslo City. "Aktiv til VM" will help children and teenagers all over Norway get in shape for skiing. The goal is to encourage over 200,000 young people to develop themselves on skis leading up to the WSC in 2011.
